small monuments etchings
This series of aquatint etchings were made in conjunction with small sculptures which explore concepts around ‘Small Monuments’. The artworks are not necessarily maquettes but should be seen as the actual size of the artwork as i am interested in the use of scale within the public realm. The artworks are deliberately constructed in a fragile manner which is at odds with the constraints of public realm conventions. The artworks use a ‘house’ as a metaphor for oneself and various combinations of materials. Houses are seen as a safe place, a protective haven, and yet this house is a solid cast concrete block, brutalist, inert, with a lead conduit which has a deposit of salt at its base.
